There is a lot to explore when it comes to Skåne County, southern part of Sweden. You guessing right, Lund is one of the treasures and therefore should be on your list while you are in this part of Scandinavia.
This green city, famed of its reputable university has to offer more than just smart ideas from thousand of students. Let’s take a look what is a must to see in Lund.
One of the jewels of Lund is without any doubts Lund Cathedral. This building belongs to one of the biggest attractions, both for tourists and natives. There is a beautiful calm outside area where you can relax, reflect and admire almost breathlessly tall towers in an otherwise fairly small town.
Are you keen for a walk in botanical wonderland? Then you bet to visit botanical garden while exploring Lund.
Flourishing outer areas, greenhouses divided into nine different climate zones, pampering green lawn surfaces and much more can be found here.
The best time is to come from May to July/August when the garden areas are blooming. You can stop by and pause in the café by the pond for an afternoon fika and chat :)
The old town and cute houses
A labyrinth of roads where marvellous timbered houses meet the small adorable coloured cottages, that perfectly speaks for the old town of Lund. Easy to explore by foot or bicycle, any time when you get fed up by too much of a city (might not happened in Lund anyways). I highly recommend wander around to get that true Swedish atmosphere. Hopefully you are there when is summer, so you get fascinated by the flowers growing in front of every house.
University park - Lundagård & Lund University Library
Charming park area in front of Lund University Library is just something that cannot be missed. The Library is mind-blowing especially when you visit during autumn or in the summer, covered all in green, standing proudly, takes you to stare with wonder.
House of Palladium
Anyone into design like me? Then, this is your must stop. Little store where cinema used to be before, bringing an extraordinary atmosphere while walking around. Lot of inspiration to your satisfaction, will for sure not leave empty-handed.
Time to slow down for a lunch or afternoon refuel? Hoppipolla is to rescue. My great friend Marky took me here and I am so happy she did. Charming little café owned by Italian-Asian combo welcomes you right when you walk throughout the doormat. Warm atmosphere, amazing food, delicious coffee, gluten free and vegan cakes and the most friendly service you can wish for.
Even though Lund is most of the summer pretty quiet (all the students are on vacation), it is truly the best time to visit. Everything is in blossom, city is not too crowded, so you can find your peace and explore without any feeling of high summer season.
However, even on the rainy winter afternoons Lund surely offers many small hidden squares, design shops, restaurants and cozy cafés to hide and enjoy your cup of hot chocolate . Lund is an adorable city, certainly worthy a visit if you are on vacation in this area any time of the year.
